SHOE BOX MINISTRY
This group provides toiletries and socks for the homeless through The Front Room in Whalley. It's a year round ministry providing people in our neighbourhood with basic toiletry needs. Donations of shoeboxes, shaving cream, deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, washcloths and socks may be dropped off at Northwood during office hours or on Sunday mornings throughout the year.
SURREY FOOD BANK
As well as operating our own emergency food cupboard the congregation supports the Surrey Food Bank.
FEED THE HUNGRY
Includes food ministry projects such as Bread4Life , Hot Lunch and Hub Community Dinners.
BREAD4LIFE - A group of volunteers from the congregation go to serve a meal one Saturday each month for those at The Front Room in Surrey's Central City area.
HOT LUNCH
Volunteers meet once a month on a Saturday morning to prepare hearty lunch to serve to homeless folks in the community. On average 40-50 homeless people receive a hot meal that usually consists of stew or chili, buns, fruit, coffee, milk and water. Sometimes we are also able to distribute clothing and blankets. The meal is prepared at Northwood and the food is served in Whalley. This is a great opportunity for both youth and adults to reach out and serve others. The hot lunch project is coordinated by Rod Carter and new volunteers are always welcome!. Please let the office know if you can help and they will put you in touch with Rod.
HUB COMMUNITY DINNER
A team of volunteers from Northwood meet at the Oak Avenue Neighbourhood Hub, located at the site of Amazing Grace United Church at 12740 - 102 Avenue. Our team cooks and serves a delicious, full dinner on site to hungry people of all ages from the community.
OAK AVENUE NEIGHBOURHOOD HUB
We support the work of the Oak Avenue Neighbourhood Hub. This work includes projects and programs like the Clothes Closet, community kitchens, community dinners, senior's programs, Whalley Family Place and two affordable daycares.
